February 10th: 3 years ago today (cont.)...

I awoke, puffy-eyed, the next morning to the sound of banging on my front door.

I waited ten seconds: "Maybe they'll go away."

Had last night been a bad dream?

The banging started up again.

It was a good thing I had to get up and answer the door, because I probably would not have gotten up that day otherwise.

After chatting with our neighbor who had just decided to stop by, I headed toward the bathroom.

What a sight.

Mascara everywhere, hair everywhere: Last night was definitely not a dream.

I was just about to go sink back into the dark cavern of my room {thanks to a denim curtain, our room could be night time all the time}, when the familiar ring of a text sounded from my phone.

I picked it up and there was Trevor Jay his name.

"should I even look at it? He is probably just canceling our date, realizing how awkward it would be now."

After a few seconds (lets be honest I still liked him, so it didn't take long) I decided to open up the phone.

Trevor Jay: "Do you wanna go for a drive?"

Huh?

Did he remember last night?

Why? Does he need to humiliate me in person? Does he need to see me upset when he tells me, I don't think we should go out tonight.?

So of course I text back,

Me: "Yeah."

 {Hey, I did tell him we would still be friends, so, as a friend, I would have still gone on this drive}

After a weak greeting at the door, we headed to "our spot". About a 20 minute drive from our apartment building, was a particular spot by Utah lake where we had gone many times to listen to music and talk about life.

It was 20 minutes of silence.

This was not like Trev at all. Twirling his fingers, avoiding my face, looking out the window.

Not a word.

I thought this must be bad for sure.

No sooner had I stopped the car in our usual spot, he blurted out:

Trevor Jay: "Can we date?"

Who is this kid?

Does he even know what he put me through last night?

Does he think he can just change his mind and I'll be okay with it?

So of course I say,

"Are you sure?"

He took a deep breath and proceeded to tell me the agony he had gone through the night before.

It involved a lot of tossing, turning, scorning from roommates, feeling uneasy, and eventually coming to the conclusion that he had made the absolute worst decision possible.

Trevor Jay: "I would regret not dating my best friend."

I sat there... stunned.

He just looked at me, slightly embarrassed.

Trevor Jay: "You think I am so dumb. Don't you."

All I could say again.

Me: "Are you really sure."

Trevor Jay: "Yes, let's date."

And so we did.

He held an Umbrella over me in the rain as we made our way up the steps to BYU for stake conference, where we sat together second row while Pres. Uchtdorf spoke.

He opened the car door for me as we rode to Color Me Mine for a night of painting, talking, and laughing.

He smiled at me as we kept ourselves warm with hot chocolate.

It was the first date of many.

And little did I know, the beginning of a date that would never end.

I love February 10th.
